Discipleship: The Growing Disciples Series

>
GROWING DISCIPLES
Jesus did not command us to make decisions, but disciples. These foundational resources help new and growing believers understand and begin developing six disciplines for following Christ in their daily lives. These small group discipleship studies will be offered throughout 2010 at various times on Sundays and maybe on Wednesdays. There will be training for those who want to lead or facilitate a group study.

DISCIPLESHIP PROCESS

Our Discipleship Process

·    Our Purpose: Glorify God by making Jesus known to all people.

·    Our Mission: make disciples.

·    Our Vision: make disciples who love God, love others, and serve the world.

·    Our Guiding Principles: from Simple Church by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger.

Clarity  è Movement è Alignment è Focus

1.     Clarity is the ability of the process to be communicated and understood by the people.

2.     Movement is the sequential steps in the process that causes people to move to greater areas of commitment.

3.     Alignment is the arrangement of all ministries and staff around the same simple process.

4.     Focus is the commitment to abandon everything that falls outside of the simple ministry process.

Our Scriptural Basis

Our Mission: Make disciples - fully devoted followers of Jesus .

·      Go … make disciples of all nations … baptizing them … teaching them  - Matthew 28:19-20.

·     You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also - 2 Tim 2:1-2 (HCSB) ¾ make disciples who reproduce themselves.

Our Vision: Make disciples who love God, love others, and serve the world .

·      Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind – Matthew 22:37.  Love God

·      Love your neighbor as yourself – Matthew 22:39. Love others

·     If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but shuts off his compassion from him—how can God’s love reside in him? - 1 John 3:16-17 (HCSB). Serve the world.

Our Goal: Spiritual transformation for all believers

·     Spiritual transformation is God’s work of changing a believer into the likeness of Jesus.

Make fully devoted followers of Jesus who think and act like Jesus.

·     My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you - Galatians 4:19 (NKJV).

·     We all, with unveiled faces, are reflecting the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit - 2 Corinthians 3:18 (HCSB)

Our Effort: Strive to be great in all we do

·     “Good is the enemy of great” (Jim Collins in Good to Great).

·     “It is a sin to be good when God has called us to be great” (Thom Reiner in Breakout Churches).

·     Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise - Philippians 4:8 (NLT).

Our Expectation: Faithfulness from every member

·     Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much - Luke 16:10 (HCSB).

·     Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful - 1 Corinthians 4:2 (NKJV).

  • We encourage every member to participate weekly in one worship service, one Bible study group, and one discipleship group and minister to believers and non-believers as the Lord leads.
